Nabin Baral is a Documentary photographer based in Kathmandu, Nepal. He worked at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) as a Consultant Photographer and Photo Editor from 2009 to 2013. He received Gender Champion Award in 2013 in ICIMOD.

His photographic work focuses on the environment, mountains, people, and social issues. He also worked for three years as a Photography and Documentary Film Consultant for Friends Affected and Infected Together in Hand (FAITH) – a Kathmandu-based NGO working in the field of HIV/AIDS and Drugs.

Nabin is visiting faculty of photojournalism for different colleges in Kathmandu. He graduated in Journalism and Mass Communication from Tribhuvan University. He completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Photojournalism from the Konrad Adenauer Asian Center for Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines in 2013.

Nabin believes in the unique power of communication, persuasion, education and information that photo and multimedia story can perform in a society. His work has been exhibited in Japan, USA and Nepal. His works has been published in most of the dailies in Nepal and in some international online media. His works has also been published in International Development organization’s publications like WWF Nepal, World Vision International, USAID, ICIMOD, HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation. His recent photo and multimedia work on river, earthquake and biodiversity and life in Nepal can be seen in The Third Pole.

In 2016, His photo work “Victim of Superstition” was awarded first prize in photo story category in the photo Nepal’s biggest photo contest organized by Photojournalist’s Club Nepal.

In 2018, Nabin sold his motorbike and became everyday cyclist in Kathmandu to become a carbon negative Documentary Photographer.

Nabin is recipient of “Artist Grant 2020” provided by The British Council in Nepal.
