Help Krishna Campaign

‘Help Krishna Campaign’ is a cause to collect fund to support the treatment of Krishna Khadka from Nepal. In 2010, Krishna, met an accident, which broke his neck and spinal cord (injury C4 and C5), when he was working as a migrant laborer in Malaysia. At the moment, he is unable to move his body parts below neck. He has remained bedridden since the day of the fatal accident. Because of the weak financial condition, his family is having hard time to cover the monthly expenditure of his treatment in Nepal. Now, a few of his friends from Nepal have decided to create a basket fund of NRs. 2,000,000.00 (NRs. Twenty Lakh only) through this campaign. This amount will remain in a joint bank account of Krishna and his brother Janga, and the interest from this amount will ensure Krishna’s treatment and monthly expenditure. We humbly request you to lend your support to this cause. For supporting Krishna, you may wish to directly transfer the money into the following bank account with your name and address:

This is a story of a young Nepali boy, who went abroad to fulfill his dreams, which unfortunately turned out to be a nightmare. Raised by a single mother along with two brothers and two sisters in the hilly mountains of Nepal, Mr. Krishna Khadka, a permanent resident of Khasyauli-1, Palpa, Nepal, went to Kwalalampur, Malaysia, at the age of 18 in 2007. Like millions of Nepali youths, Krishna decided to go abroad due to poor economic condition of his family and lack of job opportunities in Nepal.

Going abroad

Excited to go abroad for the first time, Krishna left Kathmandu on 10 May, 2007 for Malaysia. Working day and night, he managed to send 150,000 NRs back to home in two years. With a dream to build his own house, his brother Junga managed to buy a piece of land for Krishna with that money. Meanwhile, Janga also went to South Korea for employment.

Fatal Accident and Journey back Home

On December 7, 2010, while working at his company, he met in accident and plunged himself on the floor with his head down. He fell unconscious and his friends took him to a hospital. The neck along with the spinal cord (injury C4 and C5) was broken. Krishna remained in coma for three months. When he regained consciousness, he was unable to move his body parts below the neck, and has remained bedridden since then. Janga Khadka, who was also working in South Korea, came to know about this accident and rushed to Nepal. He struggled hard to get support from different organizations to bring Krishna back to Nepal. After rigorous efforts of one and half month, Janga was finally able to bring Krishna back to Nepal, after nearly four months in hospital in Kwalalampur.

Janga left no stone unturned for his brother’s treatment in Nepal. Visiting all the famous neurologists in Kathmandu did no help much. He then took his brother back to the hospital in his home town Palpa where Krishna stayed for nearly 9 months. By that time, Janga’s visa expired and he could not return to South Korea. He also took his brother to India for stem cell transplant. Krishna’s condition didn’t improve a bit even after 3 month long treatment at Dibyadi Hospital in Kanpur. By that time, they had already spent about NRs. 700,000. Managing funds for Krishna’s treatment was the biggest challenge for Janga, with his limited income. Since most of the expenditure was covered from loan taken from his relatives, he had no choice but to sell the land which he bought for his brother.

Bedridden Days

With very little hope of improvement, Janga found a care center in Kathmandu named ‘Khagendra Basnet Nawa Jivan Kendra’, Jorpati, where disabled people are taken care of. At the moment, Krishna is bedridden. He has wounds and infection on his back. Medically, such infection continues as the patient lies on a bed in the same position because of his inability to move around himself. Very recently, Krishna has managed to sit on a wheel chair, which, he explained, came as a great relief after the accident.

Till now his brother is the only one, who is taking care of the expenses of his treatment. His brother is in driving profession and has very limited income. Now it is very hard for him to take care of his own family with wife and two kids and also the treatment cost of his brother. Junga has to pay the monthly fee of about NRs. 6,000.00 to the Center and also the treatment cost of around NRs. 8000. Certainly, it is not easy for a family man in driving profession to pay NRs. 14,000 per month for the treatment of his brother.

Basket fund

A few of Krishna’s friends from his village came with an idea to make a basket fund for Krishna’s treatment. They are aiming to collect about two million Nepali rupees (NRs. 2,000,000.00), which will be saved in the joint bank account of Krishna and Janga Khadka in Nepal. The interest from the bank will ensure the continuation of Krishna’s treatment in the future. They hope that one day Krishna will recover from this ordeal and will be able to meet his mother who is living alone in a village in Palpa.

We sincerely request everyone who knows Krishna to come forward and lend support to ‘Help Krishna Campaign’. Krishna has happily proposed ‘‘Khagendra Basnet Nawa Jivan Kendra’, Jorpati and two schools: Laxmi Higher Secondary School, Malmool, Palpa and Saraswati Higher Secondary School, Palpa (where Krishna had studied) as the nominee of this fund once he will no longer need it. After that, the basket fund will be utilized for supporting education of disabled children and children from marginalized communities.

Note: This is a campaign driven by Team ‘Help Krishna Campaign’. After consultation with his mother and brother, we have decided to collect fund for this cause. We will continuously update the progress of fund collection and Krishna’s treatment in a Facebook account. In Nepal, the consultation with doctors has shown no hope of progress for spinal cord injury C4 and C5. However, if you come across any positive information regarding the treatment, please let us know. Thank you.
